The aim of this stud book is to categorise Leonbergers in Australia in chronological order and provide basic information about them. Leonbergers are still a very rare breed in this country with less than 200 officially registered since 1989, although we know that there are at least 40+ more that have not been re-registered here, plus 2 unregistered litters in Queensland (one of which is recorded here) and therefore we have 243 Leonbergers listed on this Stud Book.
Current live population is estimated to be about 210.

As of today, 29th July 2010, this stud book lists all Leonbergers currently registered in Australia including all re-registered imports and a number of non-registered imports plus one non registered litter.

Stud Books can only be as useful as the information supplied, therefore it is very important for breeders and owners alike to submit all health details of their dogs.
Although this club has not yet established a Code of Ethics, we do include an "open health database" in our statement of purposes. Puppy buyers should therefore study what verified information has been submitted from both Australian and New Zealand kennels
