Leonberger Association of Victoria Inc.

News

The Leonberger Association of Victoria was formed on the 27th September 2007 by the amalgamation of the the Lowe Dog Club of Victoria Inc and the Victorian Leonberger Association Inc and was granted incorporation, in its own right, on the 23rd October 2007. Our members are Leonberger owners, fanciers and breeders, with the common aim of working together to promote the Leonberger breed for the wonderful companion dogs that they are.

The Big Day Out for Dogs was held on Sunday 12th December at KCC Park in Cranbourne. A number of enthusiasts put up the Leonberger stand just before the rain hit! The weather was showery on and off all day, but it certainly didn't dampen spirits. There were 17 Leos present on the day who ranged in age from 3 month old Indy to over 11 and a half years old Pascha. It was a lovely day of catching up with old friends and making new ones.

The pictures below are of Indy, the stand, 8 year old Shaq and his mum Pascha;

of Georgia's 4 month old pups Spice, Clancy, Zumba, Molly and Barney (lying down), as well as Sammy, and Brenin who was being taken for a walk by an Aussie Shepherd friend;

and of Xeta, Ben, Tamsin and Hamish.

Many thanks to Georgia for providing photos from the day!

The Leonberger community welcomed international visitors, Hein Sibrijns and Metha Stramer to Melbourne. A get-together was organised on the 31st October at Fairiield. Pictured below is a group shot of those who attended with their dogs.

It was also a special day at Fairfield for Pascha and her owners Karen and Bill. Hein and Metha presented Pascha with 2 Veteran Awards as recognition of her being the oldest living Leonberger in the Southern Hemisphere.

The photos below show Hein, Metha, Karen and Bill at Sunbury with Pascha; a photo of her awards; and Pascha at home with them.

A number of Leos were entered in the Sunbury Canine Club Championship Show held on the 2nd November. Despite intermittant showers, everyone enjoyed their day. Below are the results from the show and some photos of the day.

Pictured below are the 4 baby puppies lined up ready to go into the ring for judging; Metha with Clancy who she attempted to show, despite her reluctance; two of the pups ringside; and a photo of Hamish with Lee, Hein and Metha and the trophy which was donated by them for his BOB win and the BOB sash donated by Lyndsay.

Below are some other photos from the day taken inside the gazebo which provided shelter from the showers.

There were 10 Leonbergers, 8 of which were entered in the 2010 Royal Melbourne Show which was held on Friday 24th September. The Leos proved to be very popular with the general public and were great ambassadors for the breed. They enjoyed all the attention they received and were happy to be patted and petted.

Many thanks to Georgia for these photos of the Leonbergers in the ring.
